I wouldn't generally classify myself as a follower of trends. I've chuckled lately at the contrived patches I've seen cropping up. These ones are painted on.
And these ones are felted on. A pretty cool idea, actually - adding things to an old sweater via felting? I'm filing that idea away for future use.
They are striking, yes, but also a bit amusing to someone who patches clothing out of
necessity.
But when my daughter's favorite tights proved to be in need of major reconstructive surgery, it was too easy to choose a fun yarn and tweak the shape of the
darned holes slightly.
This is brilliant. I never even considered darning tights, but it makes so much sense.
ReplyDeleteFor a really great pair of tights, it's totally worth it.
Deleteman, that look so much better than my machined-line across the knee of a pair of tights. I'm really going to have to spice it up a little.
ReplyDeleteIt may look better, but it took an awfully long time. Still, it was something I could keep in my purse and work on for 5 minutes at a time when the opportunity presented itself. I'm also hoping that it will last longer than my past tight mendings via machine.
DeleteFirst of all, I need to get myself a darning bag like Mom used to have! Some of TJ's socks are in serious need of patching. Also, it's really funny because I literally just saw that felting patch on Pinterest like 10 mins ago and thought of you immediately! I had no idea you could do that...
ReplyDeletePretty cool, eh? Like I said, it's tucked away in the future projects file in my brain.
