Reading, 'Riting and 'Rithmetic Skirt


I saw these fabrics paired together in my local fabric store, an alphabet embroidered on the notebook paper fabric. So charming! After seeing it, I couldn't possibly NOT make something for my daughter using the same fabric and embroidery idea.
Though the skirt was a simple design, I really went all out on the details with this project. It was my first time doing embroidery on clothing (I've always been a bit prejudiced against it, associating it too closely with pompous monograms) and my first attempt at pintucks. I will most assuredly be doing more of both soon. What a delightful project.

    I love this. the girls have so many clothes already, but this just doesn't seem optional. maybe a pocket or pouch for a little notebook and a pen too . . .

    Oh, what a wonderful idea, Allyson! I'll have to see if I can work a few pockets into the skirt. What do you think - out of the same notebook paper fabric, or a contrasting fabric?

    wouldn't red be great, to go with the embroidery? ahhhh, or maybe a pouch in the shape of a letter -- like a big cool "o" or "q" or something

    ahhhhh! or wait! maybe an "o" or "q", and the inside circle is a RED BALLOON. I'm really glad I finally finished off a nearly-two-year project this afternoon so I don't feel like a slacker switching to this one . . . too cool.

    This is too sweet! I have seen notebook paper fabric around but I am curious about the other material used for this project. Can you give any details about where I could find some? Thanks!
