The boy has been sick for three days now, which means I'm officially two nights behind on sleep. I know I've gone through "baby with a cold" dozens of times, but I'm still having trouble finding a good solution for this poor little guy. Any good ideas for congestion in a seven month old? Nothing like a clogged-up nose and snargly lungs to make it hard for a baby to eat. And sleep. And just plain feel pleasant.
Our go to treatment with the girls was a combination of every bit of advice we had ever received: humidifier, chest rub on chest AND feet (don't ask me why), elevating the head of their crib/mattress, topped off with some herbal tea with lemon juice.
ReplyDeleteNow you ask, did it work? Who knows. Maybe it was more a treatment for our jangled nerves.
We've also steamed up the bathroom with hot water and sat in there until the coughing ebbs. Saline drops in the nose, or vick's vapo-rub dabbed under the nose. Good luck.
ReplyDeletethanks for the superb advice. steam in the bathroom and an elevated head work wonders.
ReplyDeleteThis is way late but (maybe for future reference) the best thing I have found to work for my lil one's congestion when sleeping is to cut up half an onion and place it in a dish near her bed. Works every time, if you don't mind the smell.
